EXPO Eco-Money is an experimental project for environmental currency which is friendly to people and the Earth.
During its 150 years of history, the World Exposition has always presented "a vision of the future for society." What sort of society can we present to the next generation today? EXPO 2005 AICHI, JAPAN has the main theme of "Nature's Wisdom." There will be various experiments which aim at the preservation of the Earth's environment and the creation of a sustainable society.
The "EXPO Eco-Money" project is one such experiment. It is an experimental project for a new social system which will strengthen and promote the connection between "Environment-friendly behaviors" of citizens, businesses and governments, to realize the aim of the prevention of global warming and create a cyclical society.
"EXPO Eco-Money" will be issued for "Environment-friendly activities" made by the visitors to the EXPO site. This environmental money will also be issued to citizens for every-day actions outside the EXPO site, such as the reduction of plastic shopping bags and utilization of public transportation systems.
Your "EXPO Eco-Money" can be used for such as participation in the prize competitions for eco-tours or acquisition of eco-products, and for such as tree planting in different areas. The amount of the reduction in CO2 emissions by all the participants' "Environment-friendly activities" will be added up and the results will be made public regularly visually.
The principles of this project will be taken over by the Non-Profit Organization Eco-Design Forum for Civil Society after the EXPO 2005 AICHI, Japan ends to further expand the network of environmental consciousness and actions of each and every one of us. It will aim for the realization of "the creation of a society that is friendly to people and the Earth," which the world of the 21st Century needs.
